PUBLIC RELATIONS AND PRESS SERVICE INFORMATION OF "AZERENERGY" OJSC

On July 12, at about 15:30, a large-scale fire was committed at Bico village of Aghsu district at 151 km from Mingachevir city and at 20 km from Khanabad village of Yevlakh region, as well as in the areas of Air Electricity Transmission Lines.
According to the information received by the Central Dispatch Department of “Azerenergy” OJSC, as the high-voltage 220 kV Gabala, 220 kV Aghsu and 1st Absheron 330 kV air lines, connecting the "Azerbaijan" TPP and Mingachevir HPS with the Absheron Substation were exposed to fire, they were disengaged from the circuit by the dispatchers in order to avoid a serious accident.
Another 500 kV 2nd Absheron Air Line had a short-circuit as a result of the fire impact and was disengaged from the circuit by line protection.
As a result of any fires (either at the beginning or during its development) under the high voltage 220-500 kV, the electrical strength of the air isolation between airline wires and the ground sharply decreases. Taking into account the temperature of the air and the composition of the smoke caused by the fire, the gradual decrease in the electrical strength of the isolation of the line passing through the area leads to a short circuit between the wire and the ground. The line is disengaged from the circuit to eliminate the short circuit resulting from fire. When the line is connected by a connecting gear, the line re-opens as a result of the continuing fire. Ultimately, the connection of the line to the circuit becomes impossible. Thus, it is not possible to connect the main power transmission lines to the circuit, which causes a great danger for the system's loss of durability.
The necessary measures are taken by “Azerenergy” OJSC for the maintenance of the system's durability as a result of the fire committed under the high voltage air power transmission lines.
