In the last years, electric power industry reconstructed as all sectors of economy according to modern standards. Construction of new hydro power plants and reconstruction of present hydro power plants are essential part of performed projects. One of such projects is new Hydro Power Plant in Balakan. Such kind of projects result in development of a region with the opening new working places for people as well as energy security of the region. According to researches of specialists, there is potential for construction of micro-hydro power plant on the mountain rivers and irrigation canals in different regions of the country. Micro-Hydro power plants give chance to save fuel, on the other hand this plants are environment friendly source of electricity for consumers.

President of “Azerenerji” JSC gave information about the plant to the President of AR.

It was noted that President Ilham Aliyev laid the foundations of this station, built on the Balakan River and having a total capacity of 1.5 megawatts, in 2010. The station is technically very effective and modern. The project has been constructed with a height of 5.6 meters. The maximum width of the trunk is 28 and the width of the stem is 4 meters. Here, 63 cubic meters of submersible cobalt per second, 23 cubic meters of submarine intake per second. The length of 2 meters and a diameter of 1550 millimeters pipe was installed during the construction of the plant. 10 and 0.4-kilovolt substations and power transmission lines were constructed, three hydroturbines and hydraulic generator with capacity of 0.5 megawatts were installed. In addition, the turbine hall and management of the station building was constructed in the territory.

Noted that this project is very important. The plant, which has capacity to produce 10 million kWh per year, will provide 15 % electricity demand of the region, 25%-30% demand of Balakan city.

President of AR put into operation Balakan Hydro-power plant.

According to the Order which signed by President of AR in 2009, special programs had been prepared for widely applying usage of micro-hydro power plants in our country. Approximately 12 hydropower plants with 150-megawatt capacity put into operation until today. Construction of five plant with 18-megawatt is proceeding right now.

100 persons have been worked in the construction of the plant. The working area face lifted, modern lighten system set and trees planted.
