Italian officials visit the largest power plant built in Azerbaijan

Image Work continues at the largest power plant, the foundation of which was laid in February last year and built during the independence period. 2 turbines and 2 generators manufactured by Italian company Ansaldo Energia have already been delivered to the new power plant built in Mingachevir and installed in its place, and 2 sets are currently being assembled in Italy according to the order and will be shipped to Azerbaijan at the next stage. In particular, HRSG of the station are already being brought in by special equipment and installed on site by heavy-duty cranes. The delegation headed by Italian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Claudio Taffuri and President of Ansaldo Energia Fabbrizio Fabri visited Mingachevir to check installation works and technical condition of Italian-made equipment at the new power plant. With the participation of the President of “Azerenerji” JSC Baba Rzayev, the guests inspected the construction site, turbines and generators. It should be noted that the new power plant with a capacity of 1280 megawatts is of particular importance in terms of balancing the negative effects of the integration of renewable energy sources into the energy system created in the country, saving natural gas in energy geenration, preventing cataclysms related to climate changes, protecting the environment, and by integrating into units 7 and 8, the total capacity will be increased to 1,880 megawatts, a very favourable result. Thus, steam from the HRSGs of the newly built power plant will be supplied to steam turbines No. 7 and No. 8 of the “Azerbaijan” TPP and ensure the operation of these units without gas combustion. The conditional fuel consumption of the new power plant will be reduced by 120 grams per kilowatt hour compared to other units of the “Azerbaijan” TPP and will amount to 225 grams, thereby saving 1.2 billion meters of natural gas per year. Meanwhile, the efficiency of the power plant will increase to 55.5%, and the amount of carbon dioxide emissions released into the environment will decrease by 1.5-2 million tons. And all this is a very important factor for Azerbaijan, which declared 2024 the year of solidarity for a green world.
